The Nicest Lounge Here Is in One of the Smallest Suites

There is a photograph of this place that gets more questions than any other. A finished lounge upstairs, bikes, good lighting, somewhere you would actually spend an evening.

The part nobody guesses: it is in one of the smallest suites we have.

Why that is the better story

It would be easy to shoot the largest space in the building and let people assume. The smallest one makes the stronger point. The room upstairs is not something you earn by buying the biggest suite. It is standard.

Every suite comes with a mezzanine, and it is already in the price. You are not adding it later, not engineering it, not asking the association for permission to hang steel.

The actual numbers

It is an eighteen-foot precast mezzanine, and the eighteen feet is depth: how far it reaches from the wall out over the floor. It is rated for one hundred twenty pounds per square foot of live load, which is a real number from a real engineer and not a guess.

What one hundred twenty pounds per square foot means in practice is that you can put furniture, people, a pool table, a bar and a couple of motorcycles up there and stop thinking about it.

There is a stranger proof of the same thing. To reach the ceiling from up there, you drive a scissor lift onto the mezzanine deck. It carries the lift.

What people do with it

Office over the shop. Lounge over the lift. A place for everybody to sit that is not standing around a toolbox. It is the second room in a building people assume only has one.

Go up the stairs yourself
